Paola Saldierna, Colours and Trims Designer, has only been with BRP for four years, but she’s already had a hand in some game-changing projects. She has influenced the finishes, colours, graphics and materials of products like Ryker, and the electric vehicles (EV) unveiled in September 2019. She finds her inspiration in a wide range of sources that include the arts, pop culture and fashion, and she keeps an eye on societal, cultural, even political trends, as well as a variety of industries. To stay innovative, she believes empathizing with the customers is essential, to understand what they need and how she can improve their ride. And that’s not all: “For me, having a clear purpose, knowing why I’m doing this, helps me find different ways of doing things.”
This diversity of innovative projects and challenges that Paola has been able to tackle is exactly what she was looking for. She found BRP through the website of the Red Dot organization, renowned worldwide for its seal of quality for design. She wanted an international company, that did great design on fun products, and she left her native Mexico to be part of our adventure in Canada.
Like many millennials, Paola cares about the impact of our present on the future: “Climate change is happening now, and we can’t escape it,” she affirms. That’s why she was so proud to work on the EV project, which she sees as being one of BRP’s most significant for the coming years. “What motivates me is that BRP is not standing still, and is applying itself to alternatives to the internal combustion engine. It means the company has a future.”
Paola’s vision of what is to come also includes greater gender parity. She’d like to see more women in powersports, in the industry and in the design studio. “It’s my dream to be able to influence that.” Since innovation, for Paola, requires a clear sense of purpose, it would seem she’s already on her way to realizing her dream!
