Like all our products, Can-Am vehicles have their riders at the heart of their design. Those who choose Can-Am seek freedom above all, whether alone, with friends or as part of a community. Especially, we all want to express our personality and our pride, and we also do this through the aesthetics and performance of our vehicles.
The new RT 2021 model is inspired by this pride, this desire to travel legendary roads and stand out from the crowd – and our design team took this idea and ran with it. They found their inspiration by bringing to mind a legendary Canadian road. Highway 99, also known as the Sea to Sky Highway, starts at the sea south of Vancouver and ends 409km later at Whistler. Christopher Rudwal, Director, Design, Can-Am On-Road, tells us more.
Why did you choose this road in particular?
The idea was to incorporate current design trends into our 2021 models. It was these trends that inspired us to choose Highway 99, which is simply stunning. You have the sea, the mountains, forest, rock, waterfalls, and various climbs and descents linked by meandering twists and turns ... it has everything going for it, a visual feast as well as a driving challenge.
Having the opportunity to ride this route is a completely unique experience – just ask someone who’s done it – and this is what our teams wanted to evoke in their design of the new RT 2021 model: a unique experience within a wide, varied set of possibilities, as if it was tailor-made for each rider.
How did Highway 99 inspire you?
The biggest changes in the models of the Can-Am On-Road 2021 range are to do with colour palette, and the RT model is no exception. We wanted to get off the beaten track – off our beaten track – in terms of colouring, and evoke Highway 99 through the shades you can find there. That’s why we see green tones, and titanium as an accent colour, like we find in the rock there. These are more sophisticated and desirable colours that are far removed from what we’re used to doing.
Those lucky enough to get hold of the new RT model will note the addition of a ‘Sea to Sky 99’ logo in various places on the machine (see video). They will also enjoy greater comfort, with the new, completely redesigned seat.
In short, the BRP team was inspired by a legendary road, on the bucket list of every open-road enthusiast. We are proud to pay homage to this national treasure that inspires our riders. As Christopher puts it: “A road like this one deserves a tailored vehicle to honour it, and to honour those who experience it.”
