BRP CELEBRATES BIG WIN IN BRAZIL's FIRST OPEN SEA CHAMPIONSHIP

In the 1st Open Sea Championship held at Guaruja (Brazil) on July 20th, French Sea-Doo rider Franky Zapata and the new Sea-Doo® RXT™ -X™ watercraft took first place in the championship's general category after a strong competition with renowned Brazilian racers.

Guaruja, Brazil, 27th July 2008 – Over 95 competitors participated in what is now being called one of the most competitive watercraft events ever to be held in Brazil. The main event in Guaruja's Opean Sea championship kicked off with the Stock category, where Brazilian favorite Deninho Casarini and French racer Franky Zapata battled for first place in the general category aboard Sea-Doo RXT-X models. It was an exciting first half, with Casarini leading the pack until the Frenchman sped ahead in the end to take the victory and arrive in first place with a 3'11 lead. Seventeen year old Giuliano Casarini scored third place on a Sea-Doo RXT™ watercraft.

Following Zapata's example, Sea-Doo racer Renata Maynard placed first in the female category with a Sea-Doo RXT, followed in third place by another Sea-Doo RXT owner, Raquel Modelo.

Not to be outdone, Sea-Doo racer Beto Lapietra led the Senior category (40+ years) in the race, and welcomed second place winner Emilio Padron Tanes as he, too, crossed the finish line on a Sea-Doo RXT-X watercraft.

Sea-Doo racers made a powerful statement in the Open Sea Championship, making up over 75 percent of the total participants in the race, and scoring first place in all categories. At least 3 of the top 5 racers in each category won using a Sea-Doo watercraft. These victories by Sea-Doo riders in the Brazilian championship demonstrated once again the supremacy of BRP in watercraft racing. The Guaruja's Open Sea championship organizers have promised an equally exciting leg for next year's affair and will be inviting more international racers to what is expected to become a major watersports tradition in South America.
