BRP REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO DEVELOPING THE E-TEC TECHNOLOGY

Research adapts groundbreaking technology for signature Ski-Doo models as well as Evinrude outboards; more to come...

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 21, 2008 - In its continuing commitment to innovation and creating leading-edge products, BRP is proud to reaffirm its commitment to the advancement and promotion of its E-TEC® direct injection technology. Originally developed for its Evinrude® line of outboard engines and recently leveraged for its signature Ski-Doo® brand of snowmobiles, E-TEC is one of BRP’s foremost technologies and one that the company is dedicated to evolving in years to come.

“Our success as a company over the years is mainly due to our ongoing commitment to innovation and a solid history of research and development,” said José Boisjoli, president and CEO of BRP. “That commitment has resulted in a number of meaningful innovations, including the Ski-Doo snowmobile, Sea-Doo® watercraft, Can-Am™ ATV 2-up models and more recently, our three-wheel Can-Am™ Spyder™ roadster and naturally, the Evinrude E-TEC outboards.”

By adapting its existing Rotax® 600 H.O. snowmobile engine for E-TEC technology, BRP has come up with a snowmobile that has the same award-winning benefits as its Evinrude line of outboards in a package that will give enthusiasts an unparalleled ride and transform the snowmobiling experience. These include a cleaner, more environmentally friendly design that burns less oil, uses less fuel and creates less smoke and noise. In short, it’s all the power and fun riders have come to expect from Ski-Doo sleds with less noise and pollution then in the past.

This new technological partnership brings with it a history of accolades for the E-TEC technology, including the coveted Clean Air Technology Excellence Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2005 and the distinction of being the only 2-stroke engine authorized for use on the waters of Lake Constance (Bodensee), one of the most pristine and rigorously safeguarded bodies of water in the world.

Bringing this marine technology to the snowy off roads of winter was a 4-year process that involved teams of engineers and designers from BRP’s offices around the world. But most importantly, it took a solid belief in the efficiency of the E-TEC technology and what it can achieve. This advancement did not happen overnight. It was the result of a culture of innovation that is inherent in the fabric of BRP and illustrated by the legacies of Ole Evinrude, founder of the Evinrude outboard engine, and Joseph-Armand Bombardier, father of the Ski-Doo snowmobile. These two men used their ingenuity to revolutionise their respective industries and their tradition is not forgotten at BRP.

In an effort to continue the modernisation and the development of our products, BRP has invested $40 million to fund three separate research facilities that will see new innovations in the future.
