BRP CAN-AM CONTINUES WINNING STREAK WITH PODIUM FINISH AT ROOF OF AFRICA RALLY

First place finish by racer Leander Pienaar adds to BRP successes at Enduro du Touquet and WORCS events

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 10, 2008 – Riding a BRP Can-Am™ DS 450TM EFI quad for the first time, driver Leander Pienaar helped BRP secure a first place finish at the Roof of Africa rally, held in the southern African nation of Lesotho on 14-16 February 2008. Pienaar’s win adds to the Can-Am team’s formidable streak of podium finishes for 2008 – which include a second place finish for driver Blaise Parent at the Enduro du Touquet contest in Pas-de-Calais, France in early February and a first place spot for Josh Frederick at the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS), held in Arizona in January.

Crisscrossing 552 kilometres of the tiny nation of Lesotho, which is bordered entirely by South Africa, the Roof of Africa is one of the most gruelling quad races on the international circuit; testing the endurance of both the driver and the vehicle. Participants race for seven hours each day through rigorous terrain – much of it consisting of local roads blocked off especially for the race – and conditions this year, which consisted of rocky terrain and rainy weather, did not help make the journey any smoother.

Debuting for the newly formed team of Amalgamated Banks of South Africa (ABSA) and BRP Can-Am, Pienaar did team ABSA Can-Am proud by completing the gruelling two-day race in an impressive time of 12:58:14, a full three minutes ahead of second place finisher Brian Baragwanath riding a Yamaha. Third place went to Juan Coetzee and team Honda Race Nation Revolution.

Despite not knowing exactly how the vehicle would navigate the terrain, Fensham says that the DS 450 held up exceptionally well and handled brilliantly. He also lauded its Rotax® engine for exceptional performance even without modifications and praised BRP’s engineering, asserting that the DS 450 is very favourable for racing, particularly in South Africa.

Pienaar was not the only winning pilot for BRP. Amanda Eardley and her Renegade™ 800 H.O. EFI X™ quad topped the women’s division with a first place finish in 07:41:24, an astounding two hours ahead of her closest competitor. In all, DS 450 riders dominated the overall standings, with five drivers placing within the top 11 finalists, including Hendrik Potgieter in fourth place, Carl Wichman, who came back from 17th place to finish seventh and Clayton Du Plessis, who came in eighth in his return to racing after a two-year absence. The wins also helped BRP Can-Am take home the manufacturers trophy, in yet another coup for the company's newest vehicle.

In related good news for BRP, famed Spanish racer Ricardo Escudero has just been signed to ride the Can-Am DS 450 quad in the legendary VIII Quadcross Spain Championship in 2008.
