Bombardier Presents the New Outlander Atv Targeting the Largest Atv Market Segment Bombardier Introduces ATV Industry'S First Two Seater ATV

Valcourt, Québec - 2002-06-06

Bombardier Recreational Products announces the launch of the new 2003 OutlanderTM ATV. This tough "Rec-Ute" (recreational-utility) is a mid-sized quad that heralds a new sporty look, feel, ride and weight in the growing family of Bombardier ATV models.

"The Outlander is the newest addition to our line-up of innovative ATVs. It offers the best value in its class and we believe this striking ATV is destined to capture the heart of ATV enthusiasts," said José Boisjoli, President, Marketing, Snowmobiles, Watercraft and ATVs. "In a sneak preview last winter, the Outlander ATV scored immediate accolades from the media and dealers for its bold look and its impressive list of standard features."

Powered by a reliable, high performance 400cc, second generation 4-TECTM Rotax® engine, the Outlander also features Bombardier's revolutionary Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) frame. This one-piece perimeter steel frame provides greater strength, structural integrity, better engine protection, and superior power-to-weight ratio. The SST frame delivers a narrower bottom profile "runner", whose "slide and glide" action allows the Outlander to virtually "ski" across obstacles without getting hung up.

The Outlander ATV design is the result of out-of-the-box thinking that has repositioned many essential components for greater effectiveness and efficiency. With the launch of the Outlander, Bombardier introduces its highly innovative TTI (Trailing Torsional Independent) rear suspension that provides superior ride comfort over a broad range of terrain and conditions. This new system repositions the two independent pivot points so that the rear wheels travel in a predictable straight "up-and-down" line when encountering bumps.

Another industry first is the Outlander's hydraulic disc brakes, which have been relocated inboard to the center of the chassis from the traditional placement at the wheel-hubs. This radical move improves hydraulic efficiency and handling control, plus provides far greater damage protection while significantly reducing contamination of the disc surfaces. Even the Outlander's major service components have been grouped in one very accessible location, thereby improving ease of regular maintenance.

Standard Outlander ATV features include CVT automatic transmission, Bombardier's new TTI fully independent rear suspension, 2WD/4WD selectability, full floorboards, and an eye-catching, molded rack design. The entire Outlander package adds up to a fast-response ATV that handles predictably while offering easier riding, easy steering, and the solid stopping power of hydraulic brakes. The new Bombardier Outlander promises to be the strongest new contender in the mid-sized ATV market for 2003. This new model will be available at dealerships before the beginning of the new year.

Bombardier Recreational Products opens an untapped market segment in the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) industry with the introduction of the new Traxter® MAX ATV . The Bombardier® Traxter MAX is the first and only ATV that has the manufacturer's approval to accommodate two riders. Prior to the Traxter MAX, ATVs were designed and approved for single rider use only.

"Since entering the ATV industry in 1999, Bombardier Recreational Products has lived up to its commitment to provide innovative new models in each existing market segment," stated José Boisjoli, President, Snowmobiles, Watercraft and ATVs." Now, as the first ATV manufacturer to build a two-seater, we are living up to our leadership reputation by providing a new product for a large, existing utility market with riders that want 2-up riding capability at work."

The Traxter MAX is specially-designed to provide the greater stability and control required when carrying a passenger. It is built on an extended Traxter frame, while the proven Rotax® 498cc engine that powers other Traxter models is repositioned more centrally in the extended chassis to optimize weight bias for both single and tandem operation.

The Bombardier Traxter MAX shares the proven benefits of the award-winning super-duty Traxter ATV. The innovative step-through design on the Traxter proves a significant added-value benefit since it allows easy access for the driver without bothering the passenger. It also features the full-time 4WD Visco-Lok+ Optimized Traction system, rear-mounted radiator, large up-front storage compartment, and park position that have made the Traxter ATV such a popular model. The new Traxter MAX will be available in dealer showrooms later this year.
