Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs Features and Benefits

101-hp (75 kW) Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine
The new 976cc, 101-hp (75 kW) (15kW – Euro 2 approved for EC models) Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine is the most powerful side-by-side engine in the industry**. This liquid-cooled, single-overhead-cam power plant features four valves per cylinder and is fed by a 54mm Bosch‡ throttle body and two VDO Seimens® fuel injectors. The sophisticated electronic fuel injection system automatically keeps the engine's performance at its peak, regardless of temperature or altitude. A dual exhaust ensures that distinctive sound you'd expect from a high-performance side-by-side vehicle. The end result is a high-performance side-by-side vehicle capable of producing the most power, acceleration and best power-to-weight ratio while at the same time maintaining excellent fuel efficiency.

High-flow Dynamics
When an engine breathes easier, it can produce more horsepower. So BRP optimised air intake, combustion and exhaust flow to improve the engine efficiency. The result is the 101-hp (75 kW) (15kW – Euro 2 approved for EC models) Rotax 1000R. This was achieved in conjunction with increasing the flow volume of the intake plenum and independent intake runners that allow the tuning of each cylinder for optimal performance. A high-flow head to optimise the combustion chamber, thanks to larger intake and exhaust valves and an increased compression ratio (12.0:1) and high-flow dual exhaust, all contribute to the more powerful and efficient engine.

Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC)
The electronic throttle-by-wire iTC system offers a smooth throttle delivery even if the driver’s foot is bouncing due to the rough terrain. The iTC system — which features a rider selectable twin-mode toggle switch for throttle control— can detect unwanted bounces and then filter the input, resulting in more throttle accuracy, especially at low speed. Drivers can choose between a progressive mode (standard) and a sport mode, which offers linear throttle control. This system also reduces the number of moving parts in the vehicle; requires no maintenance; has no cables to adjust, lubricate, or replace; and has an increased life span.

Dual Exhaust
The dual exhaust uses tuned manifold lengths and a resonator chamber to create more flow, optimising performance and sound. The industry-first catalytic converter and closed-loop system ensure optimal combustion from an emission standpoint, meeting new EPA/CARB standards for 2013 models.

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Zylon-reinforced belt
The updated CVT system showcases a new belt reinforced with Zylon, a material with 1.6 times higher tensile strength and with increased belt rigidity in compression compared to a regular belt, keeping it cooler. A dual CVT exhaust design also ensures cooler belt temperatures, even in extreme conditions. A redesigned drive pulley with increased diameter will provide extra durability, standard with engine braking to help slow drivers when going downhill.

37.8 L fuel tank
The Maverick side-by-side has the largest fuel tank of sport side-by-sides at 38 litres. That is 14 per cent more than its nearest competitor in the segment, providing extended range while exploring the outdoors.

Double A-arm front suspension
The double A-arm front suspension features 14 in. (356 mm) of travel for a capable and precise ride.

Torsional Trailing A-Arms (TTA) independent rear suspension
The innovative TTA rear suspension on the Maverick 1000R side-by-side is engineered to be compact, lightweight, efficient and deliver the performance sport enthusiasts demand. This is a compact version of a five-link suspension for no bump steer and the lowest scrub for optimised bump absorption and tyre-to-ground contact. It also has less rear unsprung weight than other sport side-by-side. The system features a double A-arm setup where each A-arm acts as two links and uses a toe-control link as the fifth link. The result is a more condensed and lighter package with fewer pivot points and spherical ball joints making it more durable because it reduces free play and wear, and is more resistant to undercarriage damage. BRP engineers designed the TTA to allow for optimal geometric weight transfer to enhance the tyre-to-ground contact, while at the same time increase its bump absorption, traction and, ultimately, overall control of the suspension. It offers 14 in. (356mm) of travel.

FOX‡ Podium X Performance 2.5 piggyback shocks
Developed in collaboration with FOX, the high-grade FOX 2.5 Podium Performance shocks make their first appearance on a factory-built side-by-side vehicle. The re-buildable shocks sit at all four corners and are fully adjustable for Dual-Speed Compression and rebound. The 2.5 Podium shocks offer a high-volume 6-inch (15 cm) piggyback oil reservoir and specially formulated oil for improved flow and heat dissipation. Proven technologies such as upper and lower spherical bearing mounts, velocity-sensitive damping control and a high-flow piston, optimise performance in varying terrains. They are designed to be extremely durable with a hard-anodised 2.5-inch (6.35cm) aluminium body, forged aluminium piggy-back body cap and a 5/8-inch (1.5cm) hard chrome-plated, heat-treated shaft. To maintain supreme control, the FOX shocks’ extension velocity after compression can be fine-tuned to optimise vehicle control.

Mid-engine layout
The Rotax power plant sits low and close to the centre of the wheelbase, which improves the Maverick side-by-side’s weight distribution and mass centralisation and enables it to react more quickly to directional changes. The mid-engine configuration results in a low centre of gravity and, along with the rest of the chassis components, improves handling while cornering. Add in a 84.3-inch (214 cm) wheelbase and 64-inch (162,5 cm) width, and the result is a nimble Maverick that is as predictable and confidence-inspiring as it is powerful and dynamic.

High frame rigidity
The Maverick 1000R side-by-side is outfitted with a new frame that offers more engineered rigidity compared to its closest competition. With more torsional rigidity, a frame can improve handling by allowing the vehicle’s suspension to work properly and with increased precision.

13-inch (33 cm) of ground clearance
The Maverick has 13 inches (33cm) of total ground clearance for optimum performance in challenging terrain. The suspension and frame were engineered to produce a vehicle that can tackle rugged terrain in predictable fashion while also remaining precise in aggressive cornering.

Front and rear dual 214-mm ventilated disc brakes
The four-wheel disc braking system on the Maverick 1000R side-by-side consists of front 214mm hydraulic disc brakes with twin-piston caliper and 214mm rear hydraulic disc with a single-piston caliper for great stopping power.

12-inch (30.5 cm) Aluminium Beadlock Wheels
The 12-inch (30.5cm) aluminium, centre-less, computer-optimised, true beadlock wheels make it almost impossible for the tyre to break its bead from the wheel during heavy acceleration or cornering thanks to this mechanical fastener.

27-inch (60.6cm) Maxxis‡ Bighorn‡ 2.0 Tyres (EC approved)
The non-directional, six-ply Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 radial tyres (EC approved on EC models) offer an extremely durable carcass, yet are lightweight in design to reduce unsprung weight. This tyre provides a smooth ride and predictable feel over a variety of surfaces while at the same time offering sturdy lugs and a capable tread pattern to allow riders to drive with confidence.

Visco-Lok‡ Front Differential
Exclusive to BRP, Visco-Lok is a progressively and automatically locking front differential system, once 4x4 mode is selected. The system intelligently transfers power from a slipping front wheel to the opposing wheel with traction. Visco-Lok has no buttons to push or levers to pull. Plus, there’s no wheel hop or driveline wind-up so the system is totally transparent to the driver and extremely easy to steer. Visco-Lok gives progressive lock-up with no rev or speed limiter.

Driver and passenger advanced ergonomics
The Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side features a spacious cockpit specifically designed to cater to the needs of drivers of various sizes and to do so with a fit-and-finish that leads the industry. It is designed to provide easier ingress / egress, more cockpit space and legroom, for optimal comfort when riding. Driver-focused ergonomics mean adjustable comfort, easy-to-reach controls, integrated safety features and unmatched versatility. A side-by-side also needs to create a similar experience for the passenger by creating a space that makes them feel at one with the vehicle.

Removable free-standing seats
The seats in the Maverick vehicle are removable and freestanding, which means the driver and passenger can feel as comfortable sitting on them at the end of a long day as they are during the trail journey. The seats are designed to offer both lumbar and lateral support, providing comfort even in the roughest of terrains.

Adjustable driver seat and tilt steering
The full bolster seats, along with their lumbar and shoulder support, are designed to offer lateral support during aggressive riding and allow easy entry and exit of the vehicle. The driver’s seat is adjustable backwards and forwards without the need of tools, making it easily adaptable to a range of drivers and driving styles. The tilt steering wheel also adjusts without the need of tools. The gauge in the Maverick vehicle is integrated with the steering column so it will pivot (raise or lower) with the steering wheel for enhanced visibility.

Passenger Handhold and Grab Bar
The Maverick line of side-by-side vehicles has a similar passenger handhold setup as the Can-Am Commander model, offering both a grab bar and a left-hand grip bar. The dual handhold design features ergonomically-friendly bends and optional hand placement for supreme comfort and convenience.

2-inch (51mm) Diameter, high-strength steel, ROPS-approved cage
The Roll-over Protective Structures’ (ROPS) industry standard was followed when designing the Can-Am Maverick family of side-by-side’s two-inch-diameter (5 cm), high-strength steel cage.

Quick-attach side nets
Designed to keep a clear field of vision for both the driver and passenger, the side nets on the Maverick vehicle can be opened and closed with just one click. A quick ingress and egress are possible with this simple one-hand and one-click system.

High-strength, multipurpose rear rack with LinQTM quick-attach system
