... New VANGUARD series of inflatable boats launches into search and rescue market ...

The 2013 VANGUARD series of inflatable boats from Excel Inflatables is being launched at Southampton Boat Show this weekend, powered by the Evinrude E-TEC 30hp outboard engine, designed specifically for the search and rescue market.

The boat was previewed recently at London 2012, where it was used as a safety and patrol boat by health & safety officers patrolling the Olympic Park to offer 24-hour support during the event, clocking up 408 hours of continual use in 24 days over the two events, conducting the equivalent of four years’ worth of service in just over three weeks. The environmental benefits of the Evinrude E-TEC engine, with its inherently clean and quiet credentials, producing 80 per cent lower CO2 emissions than an idling four-stroke engine, enabled the VANGUARD 535 boat to move around the waterways seamlessly in its natural and impressive surroundings.

Terry Wright, managing director of Excel Inflatables, says, “As part of the idyllic setting of the Olympic Park, the waterways had to reflect the clean and fresh scenery of the host venue. The E-TEC engine was the obvious choice for this role, boasting the longest inter-service intervals of up to 300 hours’ use of any outboard on the market. The VANGUARD series is ideally suited to commercial applications such as this where performance, reliability and environmental concerns are required all day every day.”

The VANGUARD series from Excel Inflatables comprises eight models from 3.3m up to 7m, which constitutes the largest portable folding inflatable boat on the market. The VANGUARD series is an evolution of Excel Inflatables' XHD series, favoured by commercial operators as a 'heavy duty' workboat. The new VANGUARD model now incorporates features specific to search and rescue craft as standard including the new Hytex 1475 (1.2mm) fabric.
