2000 In Brief

The company demonstrates its leadership in the powersports industry with advancements in innovative features in terms of safety, ergonomics, fuel efficiency and performance and as a result, garners numerous awards. The BRP brand is born. The company confirms its commitment to research and development with the inauguration of two R & D facilities. It adds to its offering with the acquisition of the Outboard Marine Corporation and with the launch of its Can-Am Spyder roadster. BRP expands its global footprint by going direct in a number of key markets.

2002 BRP launches the first two-rider ATV

On June 6, Bombardier Recreational Products opens an untapped market segment by introducing its Traxter MAX ATV, the first and only ATV with the manufacturer’s approval to accommodate two riders.

2002 Another innovation – semi-direct injection two-stroke engine technology

In March, Bombardier innovates again with the introduction of semi-direct injection two-stroke engine technology. The Rotax 800 2-TEC SDI engine for its Ski-Doo snowmobiles offers as much as a 50 % reduction in hydrocarbon emissions and up to 25 % better fuel economy.

2002 BRP innovates with the launch of the Ski-Doo REV platform

Bombardier Recreational Products also revolutionizes the snowmobile industry in November by introducing Ski-Doo snowmobiles with REV platform, snowmobiling’s most radical innovation in 40 years.

2002 BRP awarded by Motor Boating Editor's Choice Award

On February 15, Bombardier receives the prestigious Motor Boating Editor’s Choice Award for the 2002 Sea-Doo GTX Rotax 4-TEC personal watercraft.

2002 Bombardier's ATV line-up grows

In November, Bombardier Recreational Products introduces four new ATV models: the Outlander 330 H.O. 4x4 and 2x4, the 2x4 Outlander 400 H.O. and the Outlander 400 H.O. XT.

2002 BRP wins NMMA Innovation Award

On April 10, Bombardier wins the Innovation Award from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) for its four-stroke-powered Sea-Doo GTX 4-TEC watercraft.

2002 Bombardier becomes official supplier of Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games

In February, Bombardier is the official supplier of Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Bombardier snow groomers and Bombardier ATVs at the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games.

2002 Sea-Doo GTX PWC wins "Watercraft of the Year"

In the same month, the 2002 Sea-Doo GTX 4-TEC watercraft wins the prestigious Watercraft of the Year award from Watercraft World Magazine.

2002 Alvaro de Marichalar of Spain crosses the Altantic on a Sea-Doo watercraft

In July, Alvaro de Marichalar of Spain sets a world record by crossing the Atlantic Ocean (a journey of more than 10,000 nautical miles) riding a Sea-Doo XP watercraft.
