BRP CAN-AM RACE TEAM MEMBER JUSTIN REID TOPS THE PODIUM AT MONEYGLASS

Verwood, Dorset, July 2009

BRP UK Ltd sponsors its fair share of race teams who continue to show winning results at the podium. On Saturday July 4, during the third round of the 2009 Ulster Premier Quadcross Championship, the team participated in the challenging Moneyglass Grand Prix circuit with four-time winner team member Justin Reid.

Justin delivered yet another excellent performance on his Can-Am™ DS 450™ X mx, taking a 1-3 scorecard and the overall win, casing him to move up three places to 6th in the series. Justin and Team Can-Am took the top step of the podium, putting in a fantastic show on the course.

The spectacular one-mile circuit, nestled in the 365 acre Moneyglass Demesne on the outskirts of Toomebridge Ireland, provided a fantastic and dramatic setting for the large crowd of spectators in attendance.

"This is an awesome track and the club has done a great job to get us out on another GP circuit. My only complaint would be that there are a couple of jumps that are just too big to attempt and as a result there are some really hard landings out there," said Reid. "I did however, manage most of the obstacles while having a lot of fun. The DS 450 X mx is so stable I had no problem committing to some of the more difficult doubles. I didn’t get away well in the second moto and got badly held up for a few laps so I decided to just hold position. I knew the overall was secure’, he concluded.

Race One
With a combination of hardpack, sand, some major jumps and challenging rhythm sections, the circuit was in prime condition as the riders took to the line for timed qualification.  Despite heavy rain in the week prior to the event, Justin quickly got his machine dialled into the varied conditions and posted the third fastest time to secure a good lead.  With a solid start off the line and after rounding the first corner in fifth, Justin quickly found his rhythm. He quickly moved through the pack, taking two spots to complete the first of nine laps in third.

With the PEP suspension dialled in perfectly to deal with the fast and furious circuit, Justin easily negotiated many of the more challenging jumps and combinations which his rivals would not commit to, allowing him to move up to second. Maintaining his pace and closing the gap to the leader, Justin’s relentless pursuit bore dividends at two-thirds distance as he moved into the lead. Unchallenged for the remainder of the moto, he cruised to the chequered flag after almost 30 action packed minutes for a fantastic race win.

Race Two
As the gates dropped for the final twenty-minute plus two-lap moto, Justin got slightly bogged down off the line. He rounded the hairpin first corner in 7th  as the field (twenty-four strong) charged out of the first of nine laps.  Using the excellent handling of BRP's Rotax® powered DS 450 X mx, he adapted to the much changed circuit conditions on the opening lap. Justin increased his pace and attacked the circuit by blitzing his way through the field, moving up four places to third after the opening three laps.

Resisting the challenges for position over the next few laps, he fought to reduce his gap from the leading duo. Justin battled valiantly as he pulled to a comfortable distance to fourth but time was not on his hands.  The experience of the past Ulster Champion chose to settle for third and an outstanding overall win on the day.
