South Australia, April, 2009 – Naming rights
sponsor to Australia’s
toughest ever quad bike race, Can-Am
Australia,
would be hard pressed to get a better result from any event.
Not only was the event the richest in Australian history with $10,000 on
the line, it was also dominated by Can-Am ATVs in almost every class. From a
possible 21 podium positions, Can-Am powered racers, including almost the
entire Can-Am X-Team, achieved a mammoth 11 podiums.
Young gun X-Team rider from Victoria, Mitch Van Vliet topped the premium
class, Pro 450, and also took out the outright win, while another rookie to the
X-Team Chris Howard (WA) cut his teeth in the East with an impressive 2nd
outright in the 450 pro class. These 2 are ones to watch. Paul Smith (also from
the X-Team and Vic) took out the fastest lap for the event.
Fresh back from a double podium finish at the Condo 750 2 weeks ago, the
X-Team’s Darrell ‘Bullet’ Knight (SA) and Colin ‘Awesome’ Lawson (QLD) took out
first and second respectively in the 4x4 class, switching around their
positions from the Condo.
More podiums came home to the X-Team club house thanks to Rick Beer
(ACT) and Rob Van Vliet (VIC) taking out 2nd in the teams class, while Lisa
’MrsB’ Hoyle (SA) brought home a 3rd in Open Womens.
Several other non X-Team riders took home trophies thanks to great runs
on their Can-Am ATVs, a testament to the power and class leading performance of
the Can-Am product.
Keep your eye out for the next ATV Action magazine in a newsagency near
you, for a full run down on the event, thanks to Editor Barry Ashenhurst who
came along to see what it was like to race in Australia’s toughest ATV
race…..on a Can-am!
