Alice Springs, Australia, June, 2008 – The Tattersall's Finke Desert Race is renowned for being one of the most intense and grueling off road races around the world.

This year was no different with an international contingent of 437 competitors toughing it out across two days of rain, dust, and tough terrain! Crossing over 460km from Alice Springs to the small Aputula Community, some 12,000 spectators and competitors converged to one of the most remote places on earth for another legendary race.

Team Can-Am rider, Paul Smith, rode a great race on the ever reliable Can-Am DS 450X powering to his second consecutive title.

With impressive legs across both days Paul finished the race with an overall time of 5hr and 35min. "I was really stoked with the Can-Am machine.

Not only does Can-Am have industry leading technology but the people behind BRP Australia are the most supportive and energetic mob I have come across" commented an elated Smith.

Also grabbing a podium finish was Team Can-Am rider, Rick Beer, finishing in third place with an overall time of 5hr and 46min. Also riding the all new Can-Am DS 450X Rick commented after the race, "The bike didn't miss a beat, the best thing since sliced bread". With only 29 out of the 45 quad riders crossing the finishing line, the race was the ultimate test for both riders and quad alike.

This race result proves the long held belief that the new Can-Am DS 450X is a real title winner in the Australian ATV scene. With it's no weld aluminum frame and powerful Rotax 449 EFI engine, the Can-Am DS 450X was more than capable of powering Smith and Beer to the podium.

A special mention must also be made to Darrell "Bullet" Knight who finished seventh on a Renegade 800X.  

Congratulations to all competitors in this year's Finke Desert Race and especially to the Can-Am team who continue to fly the Can-Am flag high above the rest.
