BRP remains one of the leaders in design and innovation
Valcourt, Québec, May 20, 2005 - Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) in association with the Institute of Design Montréal (IDM) recognizes the career of a Québec industrial designer and reaffirms its support to young designers. On May 19, Denys Lapointe, Vice President, Design and innovation, BRP, member of IDM's board of directors and an observer on the jury, handed the "BRP Sam-Lapointe Career" award to Douglas Ball during the annual IDM gala. IDM and BRP also announced the winner of the "Design/BRP contest", Johnathan Côté.
Douglas Ball, an industrial designer, influenced the future of the companies he worked for, thanks to the products he created. He transformed the work environment of many people by introducing new systems such as the revolutionary Race system and dedicated part of his work to improve the quality of life of the handicapped. The "BRP Sam-Lapointe Career" award comes with a 10,000 dollar prize from BRP.
For winning the "Design IDM/BRP contest" with tomorrow's moped, the "E2B-750", Johnathan Côté, student at the Université de Montréal, also received a 2 500 dollar prize and a three-month paid internship in one of BRP's Design and innovation studios.

BRP designers thrive on innovation and in order to maintain their drive, every year BRP takes part in a number of contests to compare their creative skills with the industry's best.
In 2004, BRP was awarded a number of prizes, among which: the Sea-Doo® RXPTM personal watercraft and the BV2S snowmobile helmet. Both received a "reddot product design award" for high design quality. Held in Essen, Germany, this annual "reddot" international competition has been taking place every year for 50 years. The Sea-Doo 3D® was named "boat of the year" by Boating magazine and "best watercraft of the year" by MotorBoat magazine, while the Sea-Doo RXP was acclaimed "watercraft of the year" by Watercraft World magazine.
The Ski-Doo® MX Z TM was named "Best of the Best" by American Snowmobiler magazine, while the Outlander TM MAX was recognized as the "best of its category" by All-Terrain Vehicle magazine.
The outboard engine division also accomplished a major milestone, winning the Envrionmental Protection Agency's for its Evinrude® E-TEC® motor. "This is the first time ever an outboard engine manufacturer receives this award "for outstanding, innovative efforts in improving air quality," this award clearly states our commitment to conceive innovative products while meeting environmental standards," concluded Lapointe.
