Bombardier salutes World Record Setter de Marichalar on his arrival in New York City

Montréal, Québec - 2002-07-24

Bombardier Recreational Products celebrates Alvaro de Marichalar's arrival in New York City after travelling nearly 10,000 nautical miles on a Bombardier Sea-Doo® watercraft. Mr. de Marichalar is the first person to ever cross the Atlantic Ocean on a personal watercraft. He accomplished this spectacular feat by spending 53 days at sea before setting foot in Miami from Rome, Italy.

"This is an outstanding accomplishment and Bombardier is proud to have been closely associated with Count de Marichalar's extraordinary achievement," said Pierre Pichette, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, Bombardier Recreational Products.

After a warm reception in Miami, Mr. de Marichalar decided to continue his expedition, named Atlantik 2002, by riding from Miami to New York City. Mr. de Marichalar made numerous stops during his journey along the eastern seaboard to meet residents, local dignitaries and media to share his anti-drug message and to promote safe and responsible boating. He also shared his extraordinary experience with the American citizens at each stop.

The cities included in Mr. de Marichalar's American trip were: Melbourne, FL; St. Augustine, FL; Savannah, GA; Myrtle Beach, SC; Wilmington, NC; Belhaven, NC; Norfolk, VA; Annapolis, MD; Atlantic City, NJ; and finally New York City.

Mr. de Marichalar reached the Statue of Liberty this morning with an entourage of boating enthusiasts who have been following his journey. Pleased to finish his journey in New York City, Mr. de Marichalar met with people, dignitaries and children at Battery Park followed by a visit to Ellis Island where he shared his ideas on worldwide unity.
