Transatlantic Watercraft Adventurist Continues His Record Setting Journey By Setting His Course For New York City After Leaving Miami

Miami, Florida - 2002-07-09

Bombardier Recreational Products, makers of Sea-Doo® watercraft, is proud to welcome Mr. Alvaro de Marichalar of Spain to Melbourne, Florida. Mr. de Marichalar successfully made the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean on a personal watercraft, riding a Bombardier Sea-Doo XPTM watercraft. He left Italy on February 23, 2002, reached Miami on Saturday, June 22, and is currently proceeding with the second portion of his journey to New York City.

This morning, Mr. de Marichalar left Miami for a nine-day treck that will end on Ellis Island at the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York City on July 17, 2002. Before departing Miami, he was presented the key to the city of Miami Beach by the Mayor. As he headed out to sea once again for his 180-mile run to Melbourne, many wellwishers and dozens of children were present to send him off. Mr. de Marichalar plans on arriving at the Intercoastal Marina in Melbourne at roughly 6:00 PM this evening.

Although this 1600-mile journey to New York City is not an everyday cruise, the trip along the Eastern United States' coastline is, "easy" compared to the unpredictable Atlantic Ocean. Mr. de Marichalar will be making stops at eigth locations during the nine day trip. He will meet with various groups at each stop promoting his causes of anti-drug awareness and safe and responsible boating with the support of Bombardier.
