Continuous leadership in more environmentally-friendly products and responsible boating.
With the introduction of the 2002 Sea-Doo® GTX+ 4-TECTM and GTX DI watercraft, Bombardier has taken the most popular watercraft platform of all time and made it better. The 4-TEC, Bombardier's first four-stroke watercraft engine, is the most efficient in terms of fuel consumption and air emissions not only meeting but exceeding federal environmental standards set for 2006. Bombardier is also innovating in introducing its revolutionary Sea-Doo O.P.A.S.TM (Off Power Assisted Steering) system, reinforcing its leadership position in the promotion of responsible boating. The O.P.A.S. system is designed to provide added maneuverability by assisting the steering of the watercraft in off-power and off-throttle situations.
"Owners of the new Sea-Doo GTX 4TEC and GTX DI will be able to say they have a more environmentally-friendly watercraft that travels up to 50% more quietly, due to its D-Sea-BelTM sound reduction system, and up to 90% cleaner than carburated watercraft," says Michel Baril, President and Chief Operating Officer for Bombardier Recreational Products. "They will also be the first to appreciate the new O.P.A.S. system that greatly enhances maneuverability in off-power situation as well as when the throttle is released," Mr. Baril continued. "Promoting responsible boating has always been one of Bombardier's motivations in advancing technology to new levels. We are confident that the use of this innovative system will have a major positive impact on the boating industry."
With the introduction of Bombardier's O.P.A.S. system, the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently recognized Bombardier for responding to the Board's recommendation for product design safety improvements. Its Acting Chairman Carol Carmody, congratulating Bombardier for its innovative action, said: "The Safety Board wants to be sure that PWC activities remain safe and enjoyable for everyone. I hope other PWC manufacturers will take similar action to advance personal watercraft safety."
The GTX 4-TEC and all DI models will also feature the Sea-Doo Learning KeyTM which limits the PWC's top speed so that less-experienced riders may learn to operate the watercraft with greater confidence.
Bombardier continues to bring innovation to the marine industry with unique and functional designs, new cleaner and more powerful engine technology, and consumer-friendly features. By offering state-of-the-art product and continuing a rich history in promoting boating as a safe and fun recreational activity, Bombardier and Sea-Doo watercraft continue to lead the way for all marine products.
