Québec City, Québec - 2000-01-12
Bombardier Recreational Products announced today that it is once again teaming up with the Québec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (QFSC) and the ministère des transports du Québec in the implementation of an important snowmobiling safety and awareness campaign. This annual initiative is being launched today on the occasion of the International Snowmobile Safety Week (January 16 - 22, 2000).
"Safety is an everyday concern for all stakeholders in the Québec snowmobile industry and Bombardier is proud to take part in the awareness efforts," said Benoît Lafortune, Vice-President, Sales and Communications. "Each and everyone of us has an important role to play in the education and awareness of snowmobilers in order to stop high-risk behaviour. For Bombardier, safety of snowmobilers is always a top priority and we will continue to assume a leadership role in this respect," Mr. Lafortune added.
The great majority of snowmobiling accidents are caused by carelessness linked to impaired driving, excessive speed and risks taken by venturing on thin ice. The safety campaign is aimed at tackling this grim reality.
Mr. Lafortune also noted that Bombardier Recreational Products has always stressed the importance for its dealers to provide every buyer of a new snowmobile with information on the vehicle's operation and with guidelines for safe and responsible snowmobiling. The "Ride Right" video, produced by Bombardier, is provided to every new owner of a Ski-Doo® snowmobile.
Following the success of its water safety campaign during the summer of 1999, Bombardier is going one step further in its awareness efforts by testing the level of knowledge of Québec population in terms of snowmobiling safety. In the context of the International Snowmobile Safety Week, Bombardier will launch, on January 16, a survey/contest in a number of Québec daily newspapers where participants will be invited to test their knowledge of provincial regulations applying to snowmobiling (Act Respecting Off-Highway Vehicles, L.Q. 1996, c. 60 - effective October 2, 1997). The winner will receive a weekend snowmobiling package at a Québec vacation resort.
Bombardier Recreational Products is delighted with this initiative of the ministère des transports du Québec and lends its unconditional support to its "Carelessness operation of a snowmobile won't get you very far" awareness campaign, which was launched last fall in co-operation with the QFSC.
